Good Storytelling
EDITOR'S NOTE
The best series and movies don't give away their end anymore. They weren't even written with an end in mind.
Why now?
Because powerful stories don't need an end. It's the Social Media, it's the human brain focusing differently, it's our visual development. Our perceptions are changing so fast, faster than any narrative. We don't want "unreal". We don't want the fairytale ending. We don't want any fixed ending.
What we want is to shape the narrative ourselves. Powerful stories let us imagine the end in a way that we can relate to. Powerful stories leave room for interpretation. And that's how we focus. That's the impact.
It's like the end of the story defining the story quality. It's like connecting at a deeper level in order to make an impact. Or in order to be relevant to a very different audience. A trained audience.
The end of a story is more powerful than its beginning. The end of the story is where people really decide if they can relate to what the teller says.
Leave the end hanging.
